Chair of Trustees

I got involved in what was then "gay and lesbian" campaigning around the time of Section 28, back in 1987/88, when I was living in Manchester.   I was also involved in the setting up of the Albert Kennedy Trust, now called AKT, the UK's LGBT+ youth homelessness charity. I was a Trustee in the 1990s, am now an Ambassador for AKT, and back in the early days my husband and I provided a home to 9 gay teenagers (not all at once!) and we are still in touch with several of them.

My husband, Amene, and I have been together since 1984 - so you know I was very young when we first met.  In my professional life, I was an executive in large global technology companies and have lived in London, Paris and Hong Kong. Now I am focused on giving something back.  I served a four-year term as a lay member on the Speaker's Committee for the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, working on MPs' pay and expenses.  I am now focused on developing a portfolio of non executive roles.   Since April 2024 I have been a non-executive director of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. having previously served for 7 years as a non executive, and Senior Independent Director at the East London NHS Foundation Trust.  I chair the nominations committee at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, and am a member of the Fitness to Practice Appointments Committee at the Nursing and Midwifery Council.  I am a Council Member at Queen Mary University of London.  I am also on the board of a couple of charities: I am vice chair at the Inner Circle Educational Trust which provides support to looked after children so that they have a chance to go to university and fulfil their academic potential; I chair Dr Frost Learning which  is the charity behind Dr Frost Maths which sees 9 million downloads a week from teachers and students studying maths – we plan to broaden beyond the UK and beyond maths.

I have been Chair of Mosaic’s Board of Trustees since October 2019.  It is the greatest joy in my life to work alongside a team of people totally committed to our mission of supporting, educating and inspiring LGBT+ young persons.
