Main Purposes of Role

 

• Mosaic LGBT+ Young Persons’ Trust supports, educates and inspires young LGBT+ persons aged 13 – 19 from across London, and beyond. It’s a community focused organisation that prides itself on delivering services to the highest standard of quality.
• Tutors will form trusting and professional relationships with young persons in a one to one or small group setting (max 3). Tutors will schedule the sessions to the best of their ability on a weekly basis to assist young persons with their learning. In your application, please indicate subjects that you feel you can support young persons with.
• To ensure consistency we require the commitment of tutors to hold regular sessions at the same time each week, though the timing of the sessions is entirely flexible.
• Tutors will take part in service reviews and case work discussions providing the opportunity to develop skills in working with a range of issues that our young persons face.

Key Tasks

 

• Manage online, mentoring relationships with several young persons each week.
• Coordinate with the young persons to schedule the sessions.
• Establish a trusting and professional relationship with each young person that encourages open dialogue.
• Tutors are required to abide by our Volunteers’ Code of Conduct and to make sure their interactions with each other as well as with the young persons are compliant with Mosaic’s ethical principles and other policies.
• Mosaic will run a DBS check alongside references that need to be provided prior to starting in the role.

 

Candidate Attributes

 

• Training and support will be provided around safeguarding young persons and vulnerable adults.
• Support will be provided to enable you to work effectively with young persons.
• Commitment is at least 40 weekly sessions per year on either a Wednesday evening or a Sunday afternoon.

 

Person Specification

 

Essential:

 

• Good communication skills
• Fluent English speaker
• Passionate about helping others
• Empathetic and understanding of the challenges faced by young LGBT+ persons
• A grade B or above at A-level (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject to the one you wish to tutor
• Educated to degree level (or working towards a degree)
• Willing to complete an enhanced DBS check

 

Desirable:

 

• Experience working with young people
• Available to tutor across a whole academic year
• Experience using Discord

 

Support and Commitment:

 

• Training and support will be provided around safeguarding young persons and vulnerable adults.
• Support will be provided to enable you to work effectively with young persons.
• Commitment is 2 hours per week on either a Wednesday evening or a Sunday afternoon.
• You will be joining a dynamic, friendly team of community focused individuals who are passionate about social justice, empowerment and promoting diversity and inclusion.
