Main Purposes of Role

 

• Mosaic works with LGBT+ young persons aged 13 – 19.
• Mosaic delivers two residentials annually for young persons, our Winter Retreat and Summer Camp. These experiences are made successful through the support of our amazing volunteer Mentors.
• Summer Camp is a week-long residential held in August, and Winter Retreat is held during the February half-term for three days in Brighton.
• Residential Young Persons’ Mentors will form trusting and professional mentoring relationships with our young persons by engaging with them throughout the residential and supporting the delivery of activities. They will also ensure that our young persons socialise and fully engage, ensuring that no one is left out.
• Mentors will take part in pre-departure training and briefing, service reviews throughout the residential, and participate in case work discussions providing the opportunity to develop skills in working with a range of issues that our young persons face.

Key Tasks

 

• Attend the residential for the duration of the experience.
• Support Mosaic’s staff team to deliver the residential by assisting with administrative tasks, session planning and delivery, as well as helping keep young persons engaged.
• Guide our young persons as they engage in planned team-building and personal development activities.
• During the social time socialise with the young persons: catching up, playing games, getting to know one another etc. Ensuring that no young person is left out and that everyone is encouraged to socialise. Keeping the space safe by reminding people of the code of conduct and exemplifying the values.
• Use the social time to build trusting and professional relationships which form the basis of a mentoring relationship.
• Take part in evening debriefs including discussion of the social and the development sessions, review of casework and discussion of particular challenges and problems our young persons are facing with the goal of identifying and being able to offer additional support.
• Mentors will be required to adhere to our Volunteers’ Code of Conduct and also to make sure their interactions with each other and with young persons are compliant with the organisation's Ethical Principles and other Policies.
• Mosaic will run a DBS check alongside references that would need to be provided prior to starting in the role.

• Training and support will be provided around safeguarding young persons and vulnerable adults.
• Support will be provided to enable you to work effectively with young persons.
• We cover travel expenses, food and accommodation.
