A literary contest made for queers

Mosaic LGBT+ Young Persons' Trust is excited to announce that we’re holding our first literary contest this October!

When?


We’ll be accepting submissions from the 12th of October until midnight on the 31st of October.




What can I submit?


We’re looking for creative writing pieces that explore the experiences of LGBT+ young persons. All creative writing styles are welcome (fiction, non-fiction, diary entries, poetry, experimental etc.) but the piece should be no longer than two pages.
We encourage submissions especially from diverse LGBT+ voices and you’ll need to be 25 or under to take part.
Please make sure that the piece is your own original work.




What are the prizes?


We thank our generous partners for their support and amazing prizes. One of the most famous and oldest independent LGBT bookshop in London. You will have the opportunity to indulge yourself in their fantastic and giant catalog of engaged books. An inexhaustible resource for all passionate of the LGBT + community. Gorgeous and cosy Library where you’ll enjoy the stay for a reading session, the Belsize Community Library is happy to offer you a magnificent goodie which will accompany you everywhere and certainly be useful to carry all your books… If you're looking for engaged, political books on fundamental societal topics such as feminism or LGBT + rights, you're in the right place! Housmans is an independent bookshop specialise in books, magazines, and periodicals of radical interest: it’s no doubt you’ll find everything you need to develop your knowledge and discover fascinating authors. In place from 42 years, Newham Bookshop is a pillar of bookstores in London. Rewarded 'Independent Bookshop of the year' in 2019, you’ll be surprised about the rich variety of subjects. From social studies to politics, history, counselling etc.: you won’t regret having a look at their catalog. Last but not least, we have the honor to collaborate with the Australian magazine Archer. Award-winning print publication about sexuality, gender and identity, they focus on lesser-heard voices and the uniqueness of thier experiences. Beautiful values, poignant articles sublimated by magnificent photos: you’ll love it! The top three pieces will be announced the 8th of November. We’ll be choosing the winners using three criteria:

  • Relevance of the work to adolescent Queer experiences
  • The originality and creativity of the work, including a fresh point of view
  • Clarity of the piece
We know that you have a story to share. Trust the Word is your chance to be loud as a proud part of the LGBT+ community. We’ve chosen to focus on young LGBT+ experiences because of the work Mosaic does supporting LGBT+ young persons everyday. We know that young people have a voice and talent which we’re so excited to share. We’re hoping that the best submissions will go into print which we’ll be putting together!




How do I get involved?


Send your work to comms@mosaictrust.org.uk using the subject "Trust the Word – [Your Name] Submission". Remember, you have until Midnight on the 31st to send your piece and have the chance to win one of our prices. Good luck!
