Main Purposes of Role

 

• Work with LGBT+ young persons aged 13 – 19.
• Offer remote counselling to young persons’ that self-refer to the service. This counselling is managed by our Head of Therapeutic Services and facilitated by a group of volunteer Young Persons’ Counsellors.
• Young Persons’ Counsellors will provide short term, time limited counselling to clients accessing the counselling service.
• Young Persons’ Counsellors will commit to regular dates and times with clients, attending monthly counsellor’s meetings, attending fortnightly supervision and maintaining client notes and records.

Key Tasks

 

• Working with up to 4 clients per week.
• Maintaining client notes and records.
• Attending supervision.
• Attending any training as required.
• Attending monthly counsellors meetings.
• Following all policies and procedures in relation to the role.
• Assessing clients for trainee counsellors (qualified volunteer counsellors only).
• Following the BACP ethical framework for good practice.
• Maintaining strict confidentiality with regard to information given by and information about clients.

Education and Training:

 

1. Be studying on, or qualified from, a recognised Counselling/Psychotherapy qualification at level 7 (post graduate) or higher: E

2. Membership of BACP, UKCP or similar professional body: E

 

Experience:

 

3. Experience and an understanding of mental health issues. Personal experience will be viewed positively: E

4. Personal understanding and experience of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer identities: E

5. Experience of working within voluntary sector counselling services: D

6. Experience of the assessment of clients for counselling: D

7. Commitment to working within the BACP’s Framework for Good Practice: E

8. Experience of an affirmative approach to LGBTQ mental health issues: D

9. Training/qualification in a relational counselling model: E
